There is no shortage of attractions in the local area.

Cooks Beach is a lovely beach to go walking, running, or swimming. Try your hand at catching some kawhai in the estuary mouth, collect pippis at low tide, or launch your boat at the ramp and head out further afield for the day. The Estuary is a popular spot for families to enjoy safe swimming.

There are also plenty of walks in the area - Shakespeare reserve is about 200 meters up the road, or dust the clubs off and bash your way round the 9 holes at Purangi golf course. The bach is located only 2km from Ferry Landing where you can catch the passenger ferry over to Whitianga and explore further afield.

The local area has some great eateries. Our favorites are Go Vino located in the Cooks Beach shops (7 min walk) which specilises in Tapas and does great takeaway coffee from their hole in the wall.

Eggcentric Cafe in Flaxmill Bay (about 10 min walk) has been a stable of the local area for many years. It is owned by Dave Fowl and is a favourite for many locals.

Mercury Bay Vineyard is a local vineyard with an amazing view of the bay. Pop in for a wine tasting and cheese board and spend the afternoon indulging in their finest vintages.

Purangi Estate at 501 Purangi Road is also worth checking out. They offer a selection of wood fired pizzas.

Whitianga is  the areas largest town and hosts supermarkets, cafes, hardware, fishing, gift shops, restaurants and plenty of other shops to cater for all your needs.

Take your togs and go for a soak in the hot springs (www.thelostspring.co.nz).
